CLEVELAND, January 23, 2026 – In anticipation of the approaching storm, Cleveland Public Power (CPP) dispatchers monitor the National Radar system to keep crews abreast of the changes in storm patterns. Once the storm hits, depending on the severity, we will call in additional line crews if needed.

CPP Commissioner Ammon Danielson said, “Our crews regularly work on the maintenance of our system to alleviate potential problems. Forecasters indicate this storm will include snow and extreme cold. These can pose problems, but we are ready to respond in all situations.”

He further stated that while we are prepared, this storm could present us with one of the “biggest winter weather risks, which is icing.” Icing coats the wires making them heavier and more susceptible to breaking. The same problem with the weight of the ice causes tree branches to snap off and drop on wires causing them to break.

Public Utilities Director Martin Keane asked that customers call the Trouble Line. “We are asking our residents and customers to follow storm protocols of calling us at 216-664-3156 when experiencing an outage. Listen carefully to see if your neighborhood is listed. If you hear your community listed, you can then hang up; we know that you are without power. If you do not hear your area, stay on the line to report your location, and if you need to report a downed wire.”

Commissioner Danielson urges drivers, “Travel with extra care during inclement weather. Beware of black ice and white-out conditions. Careful driving will prevent accidents and cars into poles. Be safe.”

If there are widespread outages, customers can also follow updates, and report outages on CPP’s social platforms, by following @clepublicpower on www.twitter.com, and Facebook by visiting www.facebook.com/clevelandpublicpower.
