HEAP Winter Crisis Assistance now available

Thursday, December 4, 2025 - Cleveland - The annual Winter Crisis Assistance program offered through HEAP (Home Energy Assistance Program) is now open through March 31. This federally funded program is available as a one-time benefit to income-eligible residents.

To help you maintain your electric service, Cleveland Public Power accepts funding from all assistance programs for income-eligible residents.

This year, all energy assistance programs in Cuyahoga County are processed through Step Forward’s Energy Assistance Services.

July 7, 2025 – Cleveland – Applications are available for the Summer Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) through September 30, 2025. Customers in need of assistance with electric bills are encouraged to make an appointment.  

Summer HEAP is available for income-eligible residents. The federally funded program helps offset the cost with a one-time benefit applied directly to your utility bill. Residents may also choose to receive an air conditioning unit, fans, or the repair of an existing air conditioning unit. Up to $800 in benefits are available.

CPP responding to downtown, east side power outages

June 24, 2025 – Cleveland – Early this morning a battery at Cleveland Public Power’s Lake Road substation overheated causing a fire. CPP de-energized the substation at 3:56 a.m. to ensure safety of personnel and protect the substation equipment. 

After receiving clearance from Cleveland Fire, CPP is assessing the damage and identifying emergency repairs to get the substation back on line safely.

Electric Utility Scams are back - know what to do!

May 30, 2025 - CLEVELAND – Utility frauds are back. Scammers are targeting Cleveland Public Power customers with spoofed telephone numbers, so please be aware and alert. If you need to reach CPP you should always call a telephone number with a (216) area code. Any other area code is a fraud. 

If you need information on your electric bill, or would like to make a payment, call 216-664-4600 and our representatives will assist you.

Cleveland Public Power prepares for high winds, first snowfall

CLEVELAND, November 20, 2024,  – The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory for Cuyahoga county from 3 p.m. to midnight with anticipated wind gusts of around 50 mph. With high wind gusts, power outages are a possibility. Cleveland Public Power will hold over crews today in anticipation of this adverse weather.
Cleveland Public Power (CPP) dispatchers monitor the National Radar system to keep crews abreast of the changes taking place in weather patterns.
